A biotechnology engineer won the Women Entrepreneurs Academy program

Serrana Pérez, a biotechnology engineer and founder of Biolube, received the first prize for best startup from the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs.

On Tuesday, August 31, 2021, the first edition of the program came to a close, and the startup Biolube won the first prize of $3,000.

Biolube is a feminine intimate lubricant and moisturizer that contains bioactive ingredients to help prevent urinary and vaginal infections and reduce the need for antibiotics.

The Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) is a program funded by the U.S. Embassy in Uruguay that aims to provide the knowledge and tools needed for women entrepreneurs to develop their own business plans. AWE was facilitated by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Universidad ORT Uruguay CIE) and received support from the DreamBuilder Foundation in the United States.

The program began in May 2021 with more than 280 Uruguayan women entrepreneurs who applied from Montevideo and other parts of the country. The training was conducted online via the DreamBuilder platform, and the classes were led by Enrique Topolansky, director of the CIE, and Magalí Da Silva, a professor at Universidad ORT Uruguay.
