A home for discerning clients

December 18, 2018
Christian Font, Noelia Campo, and Patricia Wolf have new homes. At least in the imagination of first-year students in the School of Architecture, who designed these projects as assignments for the Project 2 course.

Designing a house for… Christian Font, Noelia Campo, and Patricia Wolf. That was the 2018 assignment for the final project in the “Project 2” course, which is taught in the first year of the degree program that gives its name to the School of Architecture at Universidad ORT Uruguay.

Coordinated by professors Gastón Boero, Jorge Di Pólito, Facundo de Souza, and Gustavo Sureda, along with teaching assistants Patricia Llugain and Giuliana Massaro, the course features the academic project “A House for…,” which involves designing residential projects for unique clients—in this case, these three renowned media personalities.

To design the ideal home, the students had to research the clients’ interests and daily routines, as well as their families and favorite spots in the house. After agreeing to participate in the project, Font, Campo, and Wolf sent videos with feedback to help the students move forward with their designs.

On Tuesday, December 11, after several weeks of work, the students welcomed the three journalists to the school to present the architectural proposals they had created for each of them.

The proposed homes for Font were characterized by the inclusion of a study where the journalist could write, watch movies, and store his vinyl collection. “I felt completely challenged; I realized that our perception of the domestic sphere is shaped solely by what we already know. I felt compelled to push the boundaries of my imagination—boundaries that, fortunately, the young people didn’t have,” the journalist said after seeing the projects.

The blend of introversion and extroversion characterized the designs presented to Noelia Campo. “I liked how they understood my whims and how they managed to make the house functional and aesthetically pleasing while retaining the features I had requested,” she said, adding that she would choose elements from each house.

For her part, Wolf had mentioned in the video the importance of privacy, open space, and natural light in her home, and the students based their projects on those ideas. “I loved the students’ creativity. I was really impressed by how well they interpreted everything I asked of them and how they were able to bring their ideas to life in such a short amount of time,” concluded the media personality and DJ.
