In late 2013, the Legislature approved regulations allowing the sale of marijuana in pharmacies to individuals who have registered in advance.
Even as the legislative debate was still underway, Pardelion Humor and Loro Films released ahidden-camera video showing how some Uruguayans might react when told that the government was already offering official testing at pharmacies.
On Wednesday, July 19, the sale of marijuana began in pharmacies, prompting Pardelion and Loro Films to release the trailer for the film *Misión No Oficial*, which shows how pharmacists who did not register to sell marijuana react when they see an army truck arrive with a shipment of cannabis.
It is a comedy that blends reality and fiction. Marcos Hecht, one of the producers of *Pardelion*, explained that “the entire project was made with a minimal crew.” He is responsible for the project alongside Alfonso Guerrero and Denny Brechner (the latter also stars in the film). Gabriel Guerrero serves as sound engineer and Duane Ríos as editor. Also, according to Hecht: Talma Friedler (Brechner’s mother), Universidad ORT Uruguay professor Universidad ORT Uruguay Olmos, Senator José Mujica, and former U.S. President Barack Obama.
While Law 19.172 was being enacted and regulated, filming moved to the United States. Between April 2014 and April 2015, Uruguayan film crews captured a story set in cities such as Denver, New York, and Washington, D.C. Post-production was completed in Uruguay.
Hecht stated that the producers of *Misión No Oficial* kept it "almost a secret." He explained that "the goal was to stay true to the original vision and time the film's release to coincide with the implementation of that law passed four years ago. The story, which is full of humor, can only be revealed in movie theaters."
