The competition aims to explore the relationship between skyscrapers, the natural world, the community, and the rest of the city as a whole. Entries must consider the impact of their immediate context, as well as the effect that population growth may have on construction, pollution levels, economic inequality, and urban sprawl.
In this edition, the competition did not specify a location; participants were required to select a hypothetical site for their project that could be accessed from two points. The selected projects were those that responded most effectively to their context.
A skyscraper for refugees
The location chosen by students Zabalo and Machado’s team was Turkey. Their project was designed to serve as a shelter for refugees, with the aim of providing its residents with all the services necessary for their reintegration into their new society. The idea was to create a place where people seeking refuge would feel protected, safe, and, in a way, closer to home.
