Since 2017, Gómez-Baquero has served as Director of Runway and Spinouts at the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, a center jointly established by Cornell University (United States) and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (Israel) to transform key industries through technological innovation, the creation of advanced technology startups, and the promotion of qualified talent.

The visit by Gómez-Baquero, who has served as a founder, co-founder, and early technology leader at a variety of hardware and software companies, took place from October 10 to 13.

During his visit, in addition to touring the CIE facilities, he had the opportunity to meet with some of the entrepreneurs who are currently carrying out technology-based projects with the support of Universidad ORT Uruguay.

About the Jacobs Institute

Recognized as one of the leading academic entrepreneurship programs in the United States, the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute fosters radical experimentation at the intersection of research, education, and entrepreneurship.

It was created as a result of a competition organized by the City of New York, inviting institutions from around the world to propose a new campus for engineering and applied sciences as a way to accelerate growth in the technology sector.

Cornell University and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology jointly submitted a proposal, which was selected as the winner in 2011 by then-Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.

Since its founding, the institute has incubated more than 25 startups, which have filed 21 patent applications and secured more than $40 million in private funding.

84% of these companies are still in operation and, together, employ more than 170 people.

All of the companies operate in New York City.
