“The idea is that through painting, we can come to accept who we are, what we’re like, and how we change over time… and well, that’s life.”

On February 20, 2020, architect Jorge Migues, a professor in the Interior Design program, opened a retrospective exhibition of his work at the Uruguayan Embassy in Paris, France. The exhibition was organized by Andrea Bays, Uruguay’s cultural attaché in France, and Ambassador Guillermo Dighiero.

Migues has built his career in the visual arts through photography, drawing, painting, and the interplay between these disciplines.

The artist explains the selection of the works on display through the creation of two art projects.

“These are two projects with different themes. One focuses on Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, the nights there, and my evening walks through the area. The other explores artists’ constant return to the human body in their ongoing search for inspiration. This time, however, it stems from the acceptance that we are not perfect, that we cannot simply accept the ideals of beauty and eternal youth as they are presented to us.”

According to him, his work expresses an aspect of the artisan’s creative process in relation to the recurring need to return to the human body as a source of inspiration and ideas for his work, which can be as varied as the paths he takes.

The exhibition will run through February 26, 2020.
