Tribute to the philosopher Moses Maimonides

April 30, 2004
The year 2004 marks the 800th anniversary of the death of the physician, jurist, and philosopher Moses Maimonides, commemorated as “Maimonides Year,” sponsored by ORT.

The tribute is organized by the Sephardic Jewish Community of Uruguay and the Executive Committee of the Latin American Sephardic Federation.

In addition to being sponsored by Universidad ORT Uruguay and other cultural and educational institutions, the Maimonides Year was declared a matter of national interest.

As part of the tribute, ORT held a contest in April for students in the Bachelor of Graphic Design program to design the image for the Maimonides postage stamp.

In addition, on April 20, the students attended a lecture titled "The Life and Work of Maimonides," presented by Dr. Samuel Liondas.
