From July 15 to 19, 2023, Dr. (cand.) Diego Telias—a professor, tutor, and thesis advisor in the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences and a research associate at the Center for Asian Studies at the Catholic University of Chile—participated in the 27th IPSA World Congress of Political Science, held at the Catholic University of Argentina (UCA) in Buenos Aires.
Mr. Telias presented two ongoing research projects at the panel titled “Sino-Latin American Interdependence and its Geopolitical Implications,” alongside colleagues from universities in Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and the United States. These were the papers “Off-Shoring Autocratic Support: The Role of China and Russia in the Autocratic Survival in Venezuela and Nicaragua”—co-authored with Luciano Quispe (Catholic University of Chile & Catholic University of Peru) and Stefano Palestini (University of Trento, Italy)—and “Voters’ Ideology, Human Rights, and the Relationship with China: Evidence from the Presidential Elections in Chile in 2021”—co-authored with Luciano Quispe (Catholic University of Chile & Catholic University of Peru) and Francisco Urdinez (Catholic University of Chile & Wilson Center, United States).
The event was organized by the International Political Studies Association (IPSA).
It was the largest event held since the association was founded, bringing together 3,000 academics, researchers, professionals, and students from more than 100 countries, with 2,800 presentations and 650 panels.
