About the Start of Classes in the Current Context of the Pandemic

February 15, 2022
On Monday, March 14, the first semesters of all undergraduate and short-term degree programs offered at Universidad ORT Uruguay will begin. So, in this third year of the pandemic, we’re here to explain the course formats and how things will work so you can be prepared.
About the Start of Classes in the Current Context of the Pandemic

In light of the current surge in COVID-19 cases being reported in the country (and around the world), the institution is operating in accordance with the measures and recommendations outlined by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) in its latest press release dated January 14.

Among other things, the guidelines state that if you experience any symptoms of infection, you should self-isolate and immediately contact a healthcare provider until the test results are confirmed.

Symptoms may include:

  • Fever (temperature above 37.3 °C)
  • Cough
  • Muscle pain
  • Sore throat
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Headache
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms (such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea)

In addition, the MSP recommends:

  • Avoid crowds, especially in enclosed spaces.
  • Wear a mask indoors.
  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
  • Stay home if you have symptoms.

Class schedule

Until the authorities issue a statement modifying the protocols applicable to universities, ORT will continue to offer various formats for delivering classes—as it has done throughout the pandemic—with the aim of protecting the health of its community and ensuring the continuity of learning for all students.

In the first semester of 2022, which begins on Monday, March 14, the return to in-person classes will take place gradually, while always adhering to the protocols and decisions of national authorities.

Accordingly, the format of the classes has been determined taking into account regulatory restrictions and the current health situation.

The gradual return to in-person classes will be adjusted throughout the semester based on decisions made by national authorities and in accordance with developments in the health situation.

For this initial phase, priority was given to resuming in-person classes for first-semester students and for courses that require the use of laboratories, equipment, and/or hands-on training.

The administrative offices of each college will keep students informed about the class format that applies to each of them based on the courses they have registered for.

All students will be informed about the next steps in the return to in-person classes as the health situation and the authorities allow.
