The event took place on Thursday, August 31, 2023, in a hybrid format (some participants attended in person, while others joined viaHyFlex®).
The webinar consisted of two sessions. One was held in the morning and focused on the agreement’s content (trade, the environment, and the strategic partnership). The other was held in the afternoon and focused on the procedures (negotiation, conclusion, ratification, and implementation).
The morning session, “The European Union–Mercosur Agreement: Content and Controversies,” was moderated by Dr. Andrés Malamud, with guest panelists Detlef Nolte (GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies) and Paulina Astroza (University of Concepción, Chile).
The afternoon session, “The European Union–Mercosur Agreement: Procedures and Prospects,” was also moderated by Dr. Andrés Malamud, with guest panelists Miriam Gomes Saraiva (State University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and José Antonio Sanahuja (Complutense University of Madrid and the Carolina Foundation, Spain).
The webinar was designed for a broad audience, including students, graduates, politicians, civil society, the business sector, and diplomats.
