Journalist Andrés Oppenheimer delivered a lecture titled "The Challenge of Mercosur in the Global Economy"

On June 13, a lecture titled "The Challenge of Mercosur in the Global Economy" was given by journalist Andrés Oppenheimer, editor and columnist for The Miami Herald covering Latin America and a political analyst for CNN en Español.

The conference was organized by the School of Communication and Design and the Association of Private Construction Developers of Uruguay (APPCU).

Oppenheimer received numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize in 1987, which he shared with the staff of *The Miami Herald* for their uncovering of the Iran-Contra scandal; in 1993, he was awarded the Ortega y Gasset Prize by the Madrid-based newspaper *El País*; and in 2001, he received the King of Spain Award, presented by the EFE news agency and the King of Spain.

In 1993, he was named one of the 500 most influential journalists in the United States by the Forbes Media Guide.

He is the author of the books *Castro's Final Hour*, *Mexico: On the Brink of Chaos*, *Chronicles of Heroes and Bandits*, *Blindfolded: The United States and the Business of Corruption in Latin America*, and *Chinese Tales: Washington's Deception, Populist Lies, and Latin America's Hope*, a bestseller in several Latin American countries.

His weekly column, "The Oppenheimer Report," is published regularly in more than 45 newspapers across Latin America.
