The Contest
The Architectural Concept Design Competition for the Mariano Arana Cultural Center aims to revitalize an iconic area of Montevideo, including the Old City, the Port Promenade, and Diagonal Fabini, as part of the process of renovating public spaces and urban consolidation along Diagonal Fabini.
The initiative aims to encourage the joint exploration of possible architectural and urban futures. This will be achieved through the development of innovative preliminary designs for the creation of a Cultural Center and the reconfiguration of the surrounding public space. The challenge lies in intervening in a space of great historical and landscape significance, which is also shaped by the expectations of various sectors of society.
Contest participants must design proposals that allow for new uses, highlight the site’s heritage value, and integrate the cultural center with the neighborhood’s public spaces. In addition, the ideas submitted are expected to take into account the environmental sustainability and economic viability of the proposed transformations.
This competition is sponsored and organized by the Municipality of Montevideo and Municipality B, with the support of the Uruguayan Society of Architects.
