With a career marked by innovation, creativity, and a deep commitment to the human aspect of architecture, Pedreira shared his story, the values that have guided his career, and his vision for the future.

A journey back to the beginning: curiosity, influences, and a crucial decision

From a very young age, Bruno Pedreira stood out for his insatiable curiosity, which was shaped by his family’s influence. Growing up in a home where his father—a dentist and tech enthusiast—and his mother—a creative thinker with a knack for intuitive solutions—encouraged him to explore and learn, Bruno was always surrounded by opportunities to discover the world in new ways.

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been an extremely curious person... my father, an extremely intelligent and tech-savvy guy, and my mother, who to me is the very definition of creativity, had a profound influence on my development,” Pedreira shared during the interview.

The decision to become an architect was the result of a natural process, an evolution that brought together his interests in art and technology. In this regard, Bruno noted:

“I’ve always straddled the line between architecture and systems engineering, but architecture offered me a more artistic exploration, one more closely connected to personal expression.”

As a child, he drew a floor plan of his house and wrote:“When I grow up, I want to be an architect so I can build houses for those who don’t have them.” That note, which his mother kept, became a symbol of the commitment he had felt toward architecture from a young age.

Design Your Room: A Milestone That Paved the Way

One of the moments Bruno remembers with particular fondness—and which marked a turning point in his career —was his participation and victory in the "Design Your Room" competition, organized by the School of Architecture at Universidad ORT Uruguay in Universidad ORT Uruguay.

Winning this contest not only established him as an emerging talent but also opened doors for him to explore technological innovation in architecture. “The ‘Design Your Room’ contest came at a pivotal moment in my life, right after I finished high school.”

“I remember the sacrifice of studying on my own; while my friends were out having fun, I would go to a tutoring center to work on my project. That effort was crucial in helping me discover the world of architecture,” said Pedreira.

Architecture as a human discipline

For architect Bruno Pedreira, architecture goes beyond the design of buildings; it is a profoundly human discipline whose goal is to meet people’s needs.“Architecture is by and for peopleThe various roles I have held have always been guided by this vision: understanding spaces and design as something that must respond to human beings, to people,” Bruno emphasized.

This philosophy is reflected in every project he leads today at Sinergia, a space that, from its inception as a coworking space to its current development, has sought to adapt to the new dynamics and needs of the working world, responding with flexibility and creativity.

His education at the School of Architecture at Universidad ORT Uruguay played a central role in this approach. Bruno highlights the institution’s influence not only on his professional development but also on how he views architecture as a tool for improving people’s quality of life. In this regard, the graduate noted:

“The education I received helped me understand that architecture should focus on people—on how they live, work, and interact.”

Innovation and Artificial Intelligence: The Future of Design

In the interview—the third in this third series of "Sobresalientes"—Bruno also addressed a crucial issue for modern and contemporary architecture: artificial intelligence and technological innovation.

Artificial Intelligence and Architecture.

“Artificial intelligence in architecture offers opportunities not only to improve processes, but also to ask ourselves where the true value of what we do lies. It invites us to reflect on the architect’s true contribution.”

This view of AInot as a threat, but as a catalyst for innovation—aligns with the spirit of Sinergia, where technology and creativity come together to create spaces that meet the evolving needs of businesses.

According to Bruno, innovation isn’t just about incorporating the latest technologies; it’s also about questioning how we do things and always looking for a better way. “I’m a big believer in the idea that there’s always a new way to do things; innovation lies in solving problems differently, but always with the goal of improvement.”

This mindset led him to found Estudio TIMB, which became Sinergia’s primary supplier for four years and where he developed flagship projects such as the Sinergia Punta Carretas Tower and Sinergia Golf.

A career marked by collaboration and leadership

Bruno Pedreira's career is defined not only by his individual achievements, but also by his ability to collaborate and build teams.

As an executive at Sinergia, he has focused on creating spaces that promote collaborative work and adapt to the new ways of working that have emerged in recent years, particularly since the pandemic.

More than 200 companies and 3,500 members are part of the Sinergia community, which takes a comprehensive approach that combines design, innovation, and a focus on the human element.

A message for the younger generations

When asked what advice he would give to young architecture students, Bruno was clear:

“I would never recommend trying to be the best at something, because that title can only go to one person. Instead, aim to build a set of skills that make you unique and appealing. Architecture is such a broad field that the key is to be good at several things and know how to integrate them.”

This advice reflects a philosophy that has guided his career: the importance of curiosity, exploration, and the ability to combine different skills to stand out.
