Aulas : Potential and Limitations

What are the main challenges that either hinder or promote the use of technology? What resources do students use most frequently in a virtual classroom?

The article“Educational Practices Incorporating Virtual Classrooms in Teacher Education in Uruguay”sought to describe and characterize how educational platforms are used in initial teacher education, both in face-to-face and blended learning formats.

The study was conducted by Dr. Eduardo Rodríguez Zidán—associate academic coordinator of graduate programs at the Institute of Education of Universidad ORT Uruguayand Javier Grilli, M.A.—professor of biology education at the Litoral Regional Teachers’ Center.

The main findings revealed low to moderate use of digital platforms. Additionally, the researchers found that the potential of ICT is underutilized and that there is little production of online learning activities.

Access to computer equipment, internet connectivity, and training for instructors were among the challenges students cited regarding the use of virtual classrooms.

“Educational Practices Incorporating Virtual Classrooms in Teacher Training in Uruguay” appears in volume 18, issue 18, of the journal Fides et Ratio, dated September 2019.
