Teaching Excellence Awards Ceremonies

In December 2014, the schools held their annual Teaching Excellence Awards ceremonies. These awards are intended to recognize the quality of instruction provided by faculty members who regularly teach courses, as well as the learning achievements of their students. At each ceremony, the respective dean reviews the year’s achievements and presents the awards to the winning faculty members, who have demonstrated outstanding performance during the year and have an exceptional academic record at the faculty. The university has been presenting these awards since 1995.


List of 2014 Award Winners:


School of Engineering (December 10)

- Ignacio Valle, Ph.D., a professor in the Department of Software Engineering, received the School of Engineering’s Award for Teaching Excellence.
- Prof. Mauricio Campiglia, who teaches Ethical Hacking and Incident Management, received the School of Technology’s Award for Teaching Excellence.

They also received awards for their outstanding performance:

- Adriana Gambogi, Ph.D., instructor of Physical Chemistry 1 and 2, for her contributions to teaching in the field of biotechnology.
- Mario Matalonga, M.A., Coordinator of Social and Sports Activities, for his contribution to bringing together faculty, students, and staff through sports.
- Fernando Thul Dalmás, Assistant Professor of Database Systems, for authoring the textbook *Database Systems: A Practical Approach* as a supplementary resource for his courses.
- To Marcelo Caiafa, professor of Information Architecture, for producing the manual "Web Application Development with Python" as supplementary material for his courses.


School of Communication and Design (December 10)

- Prof. Luis Elbert, a professor of Film History, received the School of Communication’s Award for Teaching Excellence.
- Martín Abud, a professor of Web Design and Digital Design, received the School of Design’s Award for Teaching Excellence.


School of Architecture (December 11)

- Architect Gabriela Quintana, a tenured professor of Modern World Construction and a thesis advisor and grader, was awarded the 2014 Teaching Excellence Award.
- Architect Fernando Montaño, instructor of online courses in computer-aided design (AutoCAD, 3dsMAX, 3D modeling), received an award for his contributions to the advancement and development of distance learning.


School of Management and Social Sciences (December 19)

- Dr. Juan José Barrios, associate academic coordinator of Economics, received the Award for Lifetime Achievement and Contribution to the Faculty.
- Alan Cohn, an engineering professor in the General Administration program, received the Teaching Excellence Award.
- Prof. Alfonso Lessa, a professor of Uruguayan Politics and Society, received the 2014 Annual Award for Teaching Excellence in university programs.
- Javier Martínez, Ph.D., an instructor in Marketing, Principles of Marketing, and Brand and Product Management, received the 2014 Annual Award for Teaching Excellence in short-term programs.
- Rodrigo Ribeiro, associate professor of Corporate Finance, received the 2014 Annual Award for Teaching Excellence in Graduate and Executive Programs.
- Family Business Management - 2014 Outstanding Faculty Award.
