The dean of the faculty, Mario Fernández, began his speech by addressing the faculty members and encouraging them to continue growing in their teaching roles. He also highlighted the most notable activities carried out over the past year.
In her presentation, she highlighted the "Women in Technology & Business" project led by the academic secretary, Dr. Patricia Corbo, and the academic projects coordinator, Dr. Laura Diaz Arnesto.
He also highlighted the outstanding work of Corbo and the graduate coordinator, Ana Laura Trías, in their efforts to encourage more women to choose the technology sector as a field of study and a career.
Another major initiative that Fernández mentioned in his speech was the new MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on computer programming, which will be held in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh on March 9, 2015.
He also highlighted achievements in the field of biotechnology, such as the launch of the engineering program, the first 16 graduates of the bachelor’s degree program, and the expansion of the laboratory.
He recalled the Student Fair held in September of this year, which featured booths from leading companies, and acknowledged the excellent work done by Soledad Ledesma in organizing the event.
In the same vein, he highlighted the enthusiasm of the instructor in charge of organizing the day’s presentations, Andrés de Sosa, who brought together outstanding professionals with innovative ideas.
During his speech, the dean highlighted the students and graduates who had achieved various accomplishments throughout the year, such as scholarships and awards in various competitions.
For example, Martín Zubeldía, a telecommunications engineer with a master’s degree in research from ORT, who won the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Jacobs Presidential Fellowship for doctoral students, or the BioMotion project, which won the Undergraduate Computing Projects competition organized by the National Academy of Engineering.
Following the presentation, the academic secretaries took the floor to present awards to the faculty members recognized for their outstanding performance during the year. They were Assistant Professor Marcelo Caiafa and Assistant Professor Fernando Thul Dalmás from the School of Technology, and Engineer Adriana Gambogi and Mario Matalonga, M.A., from the School of Engineering.
At the close of the event, the Teaching Excellence Awards were presented. From the School of Engineering, Ignacio Valle, a professor in the Department of Software Engineering, was selected, and representing the School of Technology, Prof. Mauricio Campiglia, a professor of Computer Security and Ethical Hacking, was chosen.
