Charlotte de Grünberg's legacy has inspired a scholarship that aims to pave the way for higher education

Universidad ORT Uruguay the Charlotte de Grünberg Scholarship, a unique opportunity for students from across the country who wish to begin their college studies in March 2026.

The 2025 Charlotte de Grünberg Scholarship

The Charlotte de Grünberg Scholarship is a competitive scholarship. The recipient will receive 100% coverage of the total cost of an undergraduate degree at Universidad ORT Uruguay, to begin in March 2026.  

In addition, you will receive 30,000 URP (Uruguayan pesos) per month for the duration of your studies to cover other educational expenses.

Registration is open through Friday, November 21, 2025.

The contest is open to students who are under 20 years of age at the time of registration and who, in 2025, will be enrolled in the 3rd year of Upper Secondary Education (EMS) in any field of study, attending public or private institutions in the Eastern Republic of Uruguay or their equivalent in the Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education (DGETP - UTU) and who, in 2024, will have completed the 5th year of high school (now the 2nd year of EMS) with a grade point average of 9 or higher, or its equivalent at UTU.

A tribute to Charlotte de Grünberg

Charlotte de Grünberg served as president of Universidad ORT Uruguay 1977 to 2024 and left a profound legacy in our country’s education system.

His belief that the university should be a driving force for opportunity and human development lives on in this scholarship, which passes on his values to new generations of students.

Stages of the selection process

The competition consists of several stages: online registration, reading a book, an in-person test, selection of finalists, interviews, and the final selection of the scholarship recipient.

The jury is composed of prominent figures from Uruguay’s academic, cultural, and technological communities:Miguel Brechner, founder of Plan Ceibal; Ruperto Long, author of the book*The Girl Who Watched the Trains Leave*Dr. María Julia Muñoz, former Minister of Education and Culture and former Minister of Public Health;Prof. Gabriel Quirici, National Director of Education at the Ministry of Education and Culture; andDr. Denise Vaillant, Dean of the Institute of Education at Universidad ORT Uruguay.
