Biotechnology Seminars

August 27, 2020
2020 has been a particularly significant year for science; the COVID-19 pandemic, the development of tests to detect the virus, and interviews with leading researchers have brought this field into the spotlight and highlighted its contributions to society.
Biotechnology Seminars Organized by Lorena Betancor

As part of this initiative, Dr. Lorena Betancor, professor of Protein Technology in the School of Engineering, decided to organize a series of seminars to highlight research and studies being conducted both in Uruguay and around the world.

To that end, he reached out to researchers—some of whom he had previously collaborated with on studies or in laboratories—and, using Zoom, launched the series. “We wanted to follow the global trend of holding online conferences and seminars so we could contribute to fields related to biotechnology,” says Betancor.

“It’s a great opportunity to see and learn what’s being done elsewhere, and how internationally renowned researchers and technologists present their work.”

So far, more than 15 lectures have been held, and they will all be available soon on the school's YouTube channel.

The series has by the Center for Biotechnology Research and Innovation (CBI+I) and the Basic Sciences Development Program (PEDEClBA).
