On September 18, 2018, the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) approved funding for a maximum period of four years for the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Center (CBI+I) as part of the call for proposals to support biotechnology startup incubators.
To carry out the project, a consortium was formed comprising CBI+I, the Technological University of Uruguay, and the university’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
The Biotechnology Research and Innovation Center is a joint venture between a group of biotechnology companies and Universidad ORT Uruguay, supported by the National Agency for Research and Innovation.
The center was established in 2016 to provide services related to the development, optimization, and analysis of bioprocesses and biotechnology products.
It provides consulting services and training at various levels to national and regional stakeholders. Clients benefit from the expertise of researchers and technical staff, state-of-the-art equipment, and a tailored approach designed to facilitate rapid and efficient technology transfer.
Its mission is to promote the development of biotechnology. To achieve this, it has a300-square-meter laboratory equipped with new Class 1 and 2 biosafety rooms, fermentation rooms, protein purification rooms, material washing and preparation rooms, and shared areas for analytical and molecular biology.
