
As a prize, Rohner will have the opportunity to travel to South Koreain October 2024 to experience Korean culture firsthand for two weeks.
The King Sejong Institute in Montevideo, the only institution officially authorized by the South Korean government to teach the Korean language in Uruguay, is part of a global network of 248 institutes in 85 countries.
This organization is not only dedicated to language instruction but also organizes various cultural events with the support of the Korean government, thereby enriching the educational experience of its students.
Contest Details
Participants had to meet certain requirements: they had to be at least 18 years old, and both of their parents had to have a native language other than Korean.
During the contest, the students had to choose between two topics for their speech: “The moment I felt proud of myself” and “An unforgettable experience I had related to Korean culture.”
Each speech lasted between 1 and 4 minutes, showcasing the participants' public speaking skills and proficiency in the Korean language.
Other winners
Second place went to Avril de la Torre, while third place went to Viviana Baldoira.
Both received a set of Korean-style products in recognition of their outstanding performance in the contest.
Judges and speakers
The panel of judges was composed of distinguished representatives from the Korean and educational communities:
- Yeonsoo Suh: Second Secretary at the Embassy of Korea in Uruguay
- Seungchan Park: Consular Affairs Officer at the Embassy of Korea in Uruguay
- Hyunjoo Park: Teacher at the King Sejong Institute
- Jiwon Hwang: Teacher at the King Sejong Institute
In addition, the event featured remarks by Joonkyung Whang, who served as master of ceremonies; Dr. María Azpiroz, director of the King Sejong Institute and director of International Relations at Universidad ORT Uruguay; and Manuela Bastos, winner of the 2023 competition.
These types of activities underscore the commitment of the Rey Sejong Institute and Universidad ORT Uruguay quality education and cultural exchange, providing students with unique opportunities for growth and learning.
