Under the title “Building Audiences for Uruguayan Fiction: The Case of Feriados (TNU),” Claudio Quijano, Lucas Cilintano, and Leonardo Pintos—from Manso Films—participated in an open class for the course “Cultural Mediation,” taught by Prof. Laura Pouso as part of the Bachelor’s Degree in Communication. They shared their insights as creators, actors, and directors of the series Feriados, which airs on Televisión Nacional del Uruguay.
"Feriados" is a blend of formats. On one hand, it features standalone episodes, and on the other, a fictional series, thus forming a mosaic of stories that intertwine over the course of a year. As a starting point—a window we open onto the world—we chose national holidays and celebrations: New Year’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Good Friday, May 1st, Grandparents’ Day, Independence Day, Spring Day, Day of the Dead, and Christmas.
These days, in addition to serving as a temporary framework, it also acts as a kind of metaphor that evokes the conflict inherent in each individual story. As they link together, they come to form the larger narrative. And not only do they form the larger narrative, but we also come to understand the different facets of each character.
