For more than two decades, Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa has been much more than just an academic publication. It has been a space where ideas find a home and are transformed into words that inspire and transform.
It has been a constant presence throughout the journey of countless researchers, providing a home for their discoveries. It is the place where many professionals first published their work. A forum for debate and a bridge to new perspectives.
Since its very first issue, the journal has borne witness to the commitment and passion of those dedicated to the pursuit and advancement of knowledge. It has built bridges between theory and practice, between researchers and decision-makers, and between the past and the future of education.
As we mark this milestone—the 40th issue of *Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa* and more than 20 years of tireless work—it is time to reflect on the journey we have taken. It is also a time to celebrate the achievements of Universidad ORT Uruguay first peer-reviewed academic journal and to renew our commitment to remaining a source of inspiration for the researchers of tomorrow.

“The importance of scholarly research is obvious, but it’s something you learn gradually. I began to appreciate it thanks to my master’s advisor, who used to tell me, ‘We have to stand on the shoulders of giants.’ Visits to the ORT library and their support in searching for references in Cuadernos were also important. It was natural that, upon graduation, I would seek to integrate the findings of my research into the journal. Now, from the perspective of a reviewer, I can see the care and dedication that goes into peer review and the work of the editorial team itself, which highlights the value of that shared effort with the authors.”

“The journal provided my first opportunity to publish a research paper based on my master’s thesis. It gave me the chance to test my writing skills and abilities. At the same time, it allowed me to continue my learning process, since presenting it and sharing it with the academic community was a challenge quite different from the process of writing the thesis. I believe the journal is an important gateway for new researchers like me who seek to contribute to the field of educational research in our country. Furthermore, it is a serious, responsible publication that is highly regarded in Uruguay and the region.”

“It is an invaluable space for both experienced researchers and those still in training, pursuing their graduate studies. In addition to the lessons I have learned from evaluating research papers, I want to highlight what it has meant to me to publish alongside those who were once my students in master’s-level seminars. I want to emphasize what it means for a novice researcher to enter the academic world, accompanied by someone with more experience, who at the same time learns and is enriched by the exchange. I conclude my reflection with deep gratitude to everyone who makes it possible for this journal to endure and grow stronger year after year.”

“Throughout my career as a physics teacher, I had not been aware of the systematic academic research taking place in our country. When I began my graduate studies, I discovered the journal, which challenged the perception I had formed of the local educational community. I was unaware of this scientific perspective on the field, which led to a sudden shift in my outlook, including how I viewed myself as a professional in the field. It has been an honor to contribute to the journal, as I believe it adds to the body of knowledge and fosters the professional perspective so desperately needed in the local educational sphere.”

Rosana Izquierdo
Library Consultant at Universidad ORT Uruguay
“My connection to the journal is from the ‘inside’; from the ‘back end.’ Back in 1997, when the Institute of Education published the first issue, I’m not sure if they truly grasped the scope of the articles’ impact on their readers across the Ibero-American region. If there is a positive response from readers, it is because the content adds value to the educational community. This is demonstrated by the activity metrics and the authors’ interest in publishing in Cuadernos. All these years have been a learning experience for us—for the Libraries and for the editorial team—which has enabled us to meet the highest standards required of open-access academic journals. It is a source of pride to know that we can aim even higher, with a strong and committed team ready to take on new challenges.”

It strengthened academic ties and opened up opportunities for professional growth. I believe the journal offers peer-reviewed and reliable knowledge to readers, and within the field of education, this is of immense value. Furthermore, it gave me the opportunity to contribute to the academic sphere on a rarely explored topic, such as the importance of the anecdote as a methodological tool in qualitative socio-educational research. It benefited from this, just as it benefits from each of its authors’ contributions, generating positive feedback for all parties: the journal, the authors, and the readers.”
