In 2022, Universidad ORT Uruguay funding from the European Commission to implement a Jean Monnet module at the local level. As part of the activities planned under the “ThinkEur” module, an initiative focused on European culture was proposed, consisting of two events: one in May 2024 and the other in May 2025.
The event “Cultures of Europe: Identity and Diversity” will take place on May 2, 2024, at the Delegation of the European Union in Montevideo (Bv. Gral. Artigas 1340) from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This event is co-organized by Universidad ORT Uruguay, the Delegation of the European Union in Uruguay, and the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) Montevideo.
The goal of the event is create a space for engagement with European cultural diversity. This will be achieved through the distinctive features of the participating cultures, such as literature, visual arts, film, gastronomy, traditions, nature, and other aspects characteristic of national identity.
The event will be moderated by Dr. Sebastián Moreno, a professor in the Bachelor’s Program in International Studies who teaches the course “Culture and Contemporary Society,” and will feature two panel discussions in which representatives from a variety of European cultures will present to the audience some of the distinctive characteristics of the European culture they represent.
