Dean of the School of Management and Social Sciences Joins AMBA-BGA’s First Latin America Advisory Council

July 16, 2019
Dr. Gaston J. Labadie, dean of the School of Management and Social Sciences, has been appointed to the first Latin America Advisory Council, established by the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the Business Graduates Association (BGA).

Dr. Gaston J. Labadie, dean of the School of Management and Social Sciences, was appointed to the first Latin America Advisory Council, established by the Association of MBAs (AMBA)—one of the world’s leading accrediting bodies—and the Business Graduates Association (BGA).

The creation of the Latin America Advisory Council follows the launch of the Business Graduates Association (BGA), a global organization of business schools committed to responsible management practices and lifelong learning.

Andrew Main Wilson, CEO of AMBA & BGA, said: "With the launch of BGA earlier this year, we are further exploring and promoting the impact that business schools—as a whole, rather than by specific program—have on the business education community and on our societies, with the vision that business education is a force for good in an uncertain world."

“This council of highly respected business school leaders will be instrumental in making an impact on business education and beyond,” he added.

The primary objectives of the Latin America Advisory Council, whose establishment was announced in July 2019, include advancing management education in the region, strengthening AMBA and BGA’s relationships with business schools, promoting responsible management and ethical business education, facilitating networking among schools in the region and around the world, and ensuring that business schools have a positive impact on society.

Enrique Bolaños, president of INCAE Business School in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, will serve as chairman. The board will consist of:

• Luiz Brito, Dean, São Paulo School of Business Administration, Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV EAESP), Brazil.

• Ignacio de la Vega, Dean, Graduate School of Business Administration (EGADE Business School), Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITSEM), Mexico.

• Gustavo Genoni, Dean, School of Business, University of San Andrés (UDESA), Argentina.

• Octavio Ibarra, Dean, School of Business, Universidad del Norte (Uninorte), Colombia.

• Gaston J. Labadie, Dean, School of Business and Social Sciences, Universidad ORT Uruguay.

• Virginia Lasio, former director, Graduate School of Business Administration (ESPAE), Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL), Ecuador.

• Sergio Olavarrieta, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, School of Economics and Business, University of Chile (UChile), Chile.

• Peter Yamakawa, Dean, ESAN Graduate School of Business, ESAN University (UE), Peru.

• Andrew Main Wilson, Executive Director, AMBA & BGA, ex officio.

• Carlos Ramos, International Advisor, Latin America, AMBA & BGA, ex officio.

• George Iliev, Director of Emerging Markets, AMBA & BGA, ex officio.

The first meeting of the Latin America Advisory Council will take place during the AMBA Latin America Conference for Deans and Directors, which this year will be held in Quito, Ecuador, from September 2 to 4, 2019.
