Eduardo Olivera, a 39-year-old businessman and independent entrepreneur, talks about his professional experience and his time as a student at Marketing Analyst from Universidad ORT Uruguay.

-In what year did you choose to study at Universidad ORT Uruguay, and why?

-I began my studies in 2008, and I chose ORT because I felt it offered the best academic program and the most comprehensive curriculum.

-What did you value most about college?

-The technical expertise and personal qualities of its faculty; the use of technology to make things easier for students, such as its online platform, where you can do “almost” everything without leaving home (enrollment, job listings, downloading study materials, etc.); and, above all, its excellent library.

-How did you come up with the idea of pursuing this degree?

-I decided to get the training I needed to thrive in an increasingly competitive environment that demands more specialized knowledge, which is why I chose to pursue a technical degree in Marketing Analysis.

-How did the race go for you?

-The standards are quite high, but once you enter the workforce, you'll appreciate that they were. In any case, you can easily balance studying and working; you just need to set aside a few hours a day for reading.

-What do you remember about your college days?

-I especially remember a few teachers who had a positive influence on me, such as Sergio “El Chileno” Alvarez, José Gordín, Héctor “El Pichón” Núñez, Federico Grillo, and Diego Chapuís. All of them are not only outstanding professionals but also excellent teachers.

-What would you highlight about the program?

-Without a doubt, the academic quality—including the tutorials for the Marketing Plan—was excellent, and I learned a great deal from them.

-When did you start working?

-I was already working before I started the program, but it gave me the tools I needed to be more competitive in my business ventures.

-How did your degree prepare you for the job market?

-In my case, as an entrepreneur, you bring a unique perspective when it comes to planning and/or executing a project, since you take into account a number of variables that I wasn’t even aware of before—and that I was able to learn thanks to the program.

-What are your plans for the future?

-My plans are to continue my studies, to keep honing my skills every day, and to pour all my energy into my projects and my dreams.
