“These new circumstances challenge us and may allow us to see what the school we want really looks like,” said Dr. Denise Vaillant, academic secretary of the Institute of Education, adding that the school we need is “one that creates opportunities and offers possibilities for all children and young people.”

In Volume 2, Issue 4 of the Ceibal Foundation’s journal +Aprendizajes, he reflected on the new educational landscape following the closure of educational institutions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Throughout the publication, he emphasized the need to keep in mind the positive aspects of the current emergency situation, but also to “understand that the adoption of technologies and various platforms involves much more than simply equipping schools with hardware and infrastructure.”

"Technological resources have no educational value in and of themselves," she explained in "Presentation: A New Landscape." For her, the key lies in how teachers and students use technology.

However, how do we move forward? According to Vaillant, some of the key areas that need to be addressed include rethinking curriculum content and the roles of teachers and students, promoting an educational approach that gives meaning to the use of technology, creating open and flexible learning environments, and fostering students’ abilities to adapt to changing circumstances.

“The pandemic challenges us and must inevitably lead us to rethink the education system and learning environments, so that we can address all the changes we are experiencing and navigate the turbulent waters of uncertainty,” he concluded.
