Since May 9, the Museum of Migration has been hosting the exhibition *Survivors of Nazism and the Shoah in Uruguay 2020*, which features portraits, biographies, and testimonies from survivors of Nazism and the Holocaust in our country.
The survivors were gathered and photographed in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic. Today, we can enjoy their portraits, brought together in this unique exhibition, which is set against a soundscape that complements the story.
The project, co-organized by the Uruguayan Holocaust Memorial Center, is funded by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Montevideo. has also has of ministerial interest by the Ministry of Education and Culture and is supported by the Municipality of Montevideo.
Venezuelan photographer Aaron Sosa was responsible for the portraits. Prof. Rita Vinocur, secretary general of the Uruguayan Holocaust Memorial Center and director of the Uruguayan Shoah Museum, and Prof. Sandra Veinstein, deputy director of the Museum, provided support with the texts, biographies, and testimonies, along with Venezuelan professor and philosopher Erik Del Búfalo.
We invite you to look into the eyes of those who lived through it. It’s an opportunity to raise your awareness, to connect with them, to get to the heart of the survivors’ experiences, and to feel the history.
The exhibition will remain open until July 9, with free admission, Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Museum of Migration (1550 Bartolomé Mitre).
