“It was an honor. All the authors featured in that issue are Belgian, French, or Canadian. They are all French-speaking and write in French; I am the only Latin American included. It gave me great satisfaction to be there,” said Ciancio, a professor in the Bachelor’s Program in Communication at Universidad ORT Uruguay.
The honor, he said, was twofold: first, because they had taken the trouble to translate 17 poems, and second, because his work was being published in the magazine.
As he explained, the opportunity arose after he participated in the La Casa de la Poesía event in Montreal, Canada, in 2017, where each participant was asked to bring poems. “A discussion group formed there, and they began translating the texts. This year, they contacted me again to ask if I would authorize the publication of the texts in a magazine, and I said yes.”
He said that, up until that point, he hadn’t known which magazine his poems would be published in, until he received two copies of Exit magazine in the mail this year, which contained his work, translated into French.
