March 23, 2021

Professors Dr. Laura Moya, Architect, and Andrés Eliseo Cabrera, Architect, will serve as a full member and an alternate member, respectively, on the Honorary Wood Commission. The professors will represent private universities.

The Honorary Timber Commission (CHA) was established by the 2020–2024 Budget Law and is composed of representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MGAP), the Ministry of Energy and Mining (MIEM), the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MVOT), the Ministry of the Environment (MA), the Congress of Mayors, the National Technical Standards Institute (LATU), the University of the Republic, and private universities. The CHA’s mission is to develop, coordinate, and monitor a plan for implementation and development aimed at increasing the use of domestically sourced wood in the construction of homes and buildings, its use in carpentry and furniture making, and promoting wood from managed forests that ensure compliance with national quality standards.
