The study, conducted by a team led by researcher John Ioannidis (Stanford University), identifies the scientists with the greatest impact in their field based on data from the Scopus database.
The analysis takes into account indicators such as the number of citations, author rank, and international collaboration, and ranks the world’s most influential researchers based on their career achievements and recent performance.
Uruguayan presence in the rankings
In its 2025 edition, the ranking includes more than 20 Uruguayan scientists who conduct their research at various national and international institutions.
Among them are Fernando Paganini and Sergio Yovine, both members of the School of Engineering at Universidad ORT Uruguay. Their presence underscores the international reach of the research conducted at the university.

Sergio Yovine is a researcher and academic coordinator for the Specialization Diploma in Big Data Analytics, the Specialization Diploma in Artificial Intelligence, the Master’s in Big Data, and the Master’s in Artificial Intelligence.
Its inclusion in the ranking highlights its contribution to strategic areas of technological development, promoting advanced training in data science and artificial intelligence through the School of Engineering, and strengthening the links between research, industry, and teaching.
