Carolina Dovat, an architecture graduate from ORT, won the National Energy Efficiency Award

The project by Dovat, an architect and student in ORT’s Specialization Diploma in Creativity and Innovation program, received the award in the Buildings category, presented by Eficiencia Energética Uruguay and the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining.

Dovat Arquitectos, by Architect Carolina Dovat, a graduate of the Architecture program at the School of Architecture of Universidad ORT Uruguay in Universidad ORT Uruguay, who is currently pursuing a Specialization Diploma in Creativity and Innovation, won first place for her CLT San Nicolás House.

The National Energy Efficiency Award is an initiative established by the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining (MIEM) in 2009.

Its purpose is to publicly recognize the efforts and achievements of institutions, agencies, and companies in the areas of energy conservation and efficient energy use across various sectors.

Compared to a traditional building of the same size and standard construction, the Casa CLT San Nicolás reduces water consumption by 80%, electricity consumption by 50%, and waste generation by 50%.

Meanwhile, in terms of its operation, it requires 30% less energy (compared to a demanding BAU scenario), avoids consuming 6,415 kWh, and generates 80% of its annual energy needs through its photovoltaic plant. In addition, it reduces CO₂ emissions by 1.8 tons per year.

“For us, this award represents recognition of the commitment we at Dovat Arquitectos have made as agents of change in a conscious effort to reduce the environmental impact of the construction industry,” Architect Dovat noted on her LinkedIn profile.

2023 National Energy Efficiency Award

The award recognizes the commitment and achievements of the nominees in the area of energy efficiency, as well as the culture of management, training, and outreach within their organizations and toward the community.

The awards ceremony took place on Wednesday, November 8, with a grand event held at the Radisson Victoria Plaza. The event was attended by more than 200 participants from across the country, including children and teenagers from participating schools and various international representatives. 

Officials from the Ministry of Economic Development and Management (MIEM), the Ministry of Tourism, the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), the Chamber of Industries, the Chamber of Commerce and Services, the Uruguayan Society of Architects (SAU), and the Uruguayan Association of Engineers, along with other national institutions, served on the public-private inter-institutional committee responsible for evaluating this award.
