On Wednesday, October 4, the conference "The Birth Certificate of Geopolitical Europe" Universidad ORT Uruguay held at the Pocitos Campus of Universidad ORT Uruguay , featuring a presentation by Tomás Pospisil, Head of the Politics, Press, and Communications Section at the Delegation of the European Union in Uruguay.
The event was organized by the Jean Monnet Thinking Europe (ThinkEur) Module at ORT’sDepartment of International Studiesand was held in a hybrid format (some participants attended in person, while others joined via HyFlex®).
The speech delivered by the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, in March 2021 at the European Parliament’s extraordinary plenary session to discuss the Russian invasion of Ukraine reflects some of the topics addressed at the conference:
This marks the birth of geopolitical Europe. It is the moment when we became aware of the challenge we face. It is the moment when Europe must rise to the occasion.
"The moment we realize that, for the first time since the end of World War II, one country is invading another—and that country possesses nuclear weapons, which increases its capacity for intimidation. It sickens me to think of the historical parallels with the events at the start of World War II."
