September 30, 2021
At the invitation of the Uruguayan Parliament, the dean of the School of Engineering, Eduardo Mangarelli, spoke at the 2021 Day of the Future.

The dean participated in the panel discussion “The Fourth Industrial Revolution and the Knowledge Economy,” alongside Sergio Fogel, co-founder of dLocal; Carlos Batthyány, director of the Pasteur Institute; and Dr. Mercedes Aramendia, president of the Communications Regulatory Authority (URSEC).

In this presentation, the speakers identified the main trends associated with the digital and biotechnology revolutions—areas that are bringing about radical change in industries, business models, organizations, and the role of the government.

The event took place on Monday, September 27, and was hosted by the Vice President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón, Esq., Congressman Dr. Rodrigo Goñi, and Bruno Gili, a partner at CPA Ferrere.

The event also featured the participation of Uruguayan experts and provided valuable input from leading academics across a range of disciplines and fields.

Future Day has been celebrated on the last Monday of September since 2017, and this is the first year it is being held with the Special Bicameral Commission on the Future already established in Parliament. The initiative was launched by La diaria in collaboration with social organizations and various groups that, since 2011, have been promoting forward-looking debates.
