In 2001, he began pursuing a bachelor’s degree in economics, graduating in 2006. He currently works at ANTEL in the Special Projects Division. In August 2007, he will begin a Ph.D. program in economics at the University of Notre Dame (United States).
Julio lived in the department of Rivera until he was 18. In 1996, he got married and moved to Montevideo with his wife to continue his studies.
"After carefully reviewing the various bachelor's degree programs available, ORT was the best fit for my interests. Quantitative tools were integrated into the core economics courses from the very beginning, and the faculty was highly regarded by both the academic community and the private sector."
For Julio, "the race was a complete success; in the final stages, it became clear that, regardless of individual preferences, we were able to develop a comprehensive understanding of the sport." He added, "The group was excellent, and although we were very diverse, we got along very well and formed a great group of friends."
He is currently with ANTEL’s Special Projects Division, where he has worked since 1998. His job involves analyzing business opportunities for the company. In 2003, he developed an interest in research, and from that point on, he explored the possibility of studying abroad.
With the help and guidance of his university professors, Julio applied to several universities in December 2006. "I applied to several U.S. universities, and in February I began receiving letters of admission offering full funding. I chose the University of Notre Dame, and I’m leaving in August to spend five years pursuing a Ph.D. in Economics in the Department of Economics and Econometrics there."
Julio Garín, a graduate with a bachelor’s degree in economics, was selected by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Copenhagen Consensus Center, and the INCA Business School to attend the “2007 San José Consultation Youth Forum,” to be held in San José, Costa Rica, from October 22 to 24, 2007
