Exhibition: "The Garden of Singing Flowers"

September 24, 2010
From September 21 to 30, the exhibition "The Garden of Singing Flowers" will be on display at the new ORT Centro Exhibition Hall (Cuareim 1451).

The exhibition is curated by Luisa Pereira Hors, an engineer with a degree in Systems Engineering, and Fabián Barros. It is organized by the School of Engineering and the School of Communication and Design.

The interactive, generative, multi-user installation, which was created using digital technology, explores interactivity as an expressive tool.

"The Garden of Singing Flowers" is an interactive space that visitors can alter through their body movements. A computer system generates a garden that is projected into the room.

The garden consists of geometric flower designs that can take on different shapes, colors, and sounds based on Fermat's curves.

Through their positioning in space and the movement of their bodies, participants can engage with the garden by interacting with the flowers and with one another to create visual and auditory compositions.

An experience that yields unique, expressive results each time, which evolve over time and grow and deepen through participation.

Luisa Pereira Hors holds a degree in Systems Engineering. A programmer and musician, she is particularly interested in the interaction between technology and art. Having always been connected to music—she has collaborated with bands such as La Teja Pride and Vendetta, participated in classical music concerts with the De Profundis choir, and composed songs for electronic music compilations—she has found the intersection of her areas of interest in interface design and digital art.

Fabián Barros is a Uruguayan communicator, designer, and digital artist. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and a Master’s degree in Digital Arts from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.

He has lived in Uruguay, Argentina, Italy, and Spain. His work has been exhibited at venues and festivals such as Caixafórum, ArtFutura, and the DIBA Festival in Barcelona; the VAD Festival in Girona; the Spanish Cultural Center in Montevideo; Dorkbot Montevideo; and the National Museum of Visual Arts in Uruguay. He currently resides in Montevideo, where he balances his work in advertising as Chief Creative Officer at Grey Uruguay with his artistic pursuits.
