The inauguration was attended by Spanish President Pedro Sánchez and Banco Santander CEO Ana Botín.
The rector Universidad ORT Uruguay, Dr. Jorge Grünberg, noted:
"It has been a pleasure to participate in this event because it has been valuable to learn about best practices from many universities, compare how university systems in other countries operate, exchange ideas with colleagues, and also gain insight into the opinions and perceptions that different universities in the region have of us. This is a particularly important event given the number of university presidents in attendance and the wide range of countries represented, and it is very useful to get to know the universities and their projects in such a short time."
There were three main themes of discussion: "Supporting lifelong learning," "Promoting entrepreneurship and innovation," and "Fostering networks and interconnectivity."
The conclusions of the meeting were set forth in the Valencia Declaration, the highlights of which include:

To provide a comprehensive education that prepares students for their future careers and roles in society.

Encourage initiative and creativity to develop solutions that address current challenges, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of communities.
Open investigation
Integrate global and local challenges into research and promote knowledge transfer for the benefit of society.
Inclusive mobility
To promote academic exchange and cooperation among universities in the interest of open and inclusive education.
Collaborative action
Increase collaboration with various social partners to deliver greater value to society through their missions.
