In recent years, Uruguay has made progress in its ability to monitor and evaluate educational pathways, thanks to the development of digital educational information and management systems. However, while enrollment and completion rates in compulsory education have increased, challenges remain in reducing dropout rates in secondary education and in promoting continuous educational pathways for students.

In this context, improving the conditions and mechanisms for promoting data-driven decision-making appears to be a key element of quality education.

Against this backdrop, in April 2023, the project “Empowering Education in the Digital Age through Data-Driven Decision-Making: Design and Implementation of Dashboards for Teachers and Administrators in Schools Under the Jurisdiction of ANEP in Uruguay” was approved for funding.

This research aims to understand the needs of educational staff in schools, classrooms, and at various leadership levels, as well as to identify data that can be useful in meeting those needs.

Empowering Education in the Digital Age is a project of the Institute of Education at the Universidad ORT Uruguay, carried out with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank. It is conducted in partnership with Tel Aviv University, and in coordination with Ceibal and the National Public Education Administration.

The initiative—which will begin in May 2023 and last for six months—involves reviewing the conceptual framework and research protocol developed by the team of researchers at Tel Aviv University, adapting them to the local context, and translating them for subsequent implementation.
