In this interview, she explains what led her to choose that career path, what she thinks of these initiatives to encourage more women to enter the tech field, and what her expectations are for this year.
Why did you choose to study electrical engineering? What did you know about the program before enrolling?
My main motivation for choosing this major was my interest in physics. I knew I wanted to study something related to that field, and given the current boom in renewable energy and the many projects emerging in that area—such as electric vehicles—that’s what ultimately convinced me.
Do you think there are certain stereotypes that discourage women from choosing these careers?
In my case, I never felt that there were careers specifically for women or for men. However, the proportion of women in these fields might send that message and have a demotivating effect, reinforcing the traditional notion that it is not a career for women.
Do you think these measures are helping to turn the situation around?
I believe these initiatives are important for encouraging students to pursue careers in technology and, furthermore, help raise awareness of these fields so that this trend can be reversed in the future. In technology careers, which involve finding innovative solutions, it is essential to have a variety of perspectives. The perspectives of men and women complement each other in achieving this.
What are your expectations for this year?
I'm really excited to study a major I love and make new connections with people who share my interests.
