
On August 19, during a visit to Cornell Tech, Eduardo Mangarelli, dean of the School of Engineering at Universidad ORT Uruguay, hosted a special event to meet with university graduates who live and work in New York.
Although the event did not take place at the Cornell Tech campus, its proximity to the prestigious campus on Roosevelt Island underscored the academic and professional significance of the occasion.
Strengthening Ties
The initiative was organized by ORT’s Central Alumni Services Office. Sabrina Bianchi, M.A., director of the office, emphasized the importance of such gatherings in fostering a sense of belonging and connection to the university community.

For Bianchi, reconnecting with ORT alumni who are making their mark around the world is a source of pride and an opportunity to strengthen the bond that ties them to their alma mater.
These gatherings aim not only to rekindle memories and shared experiences, but also to provide graduates with a space to exchange knowledge and support other community members who are considering pursuing an international experience.
The director of the Central Graduate Services Office emphasized how important it is for these professionals to know that they can always count on ORT for guidance and support.
Successes and shared experiences
The event brought together professionals with distinguished careers in various fields.
In the technology sector, Sebastián López and Gonzalo Varela participated; both are graduates of the Systems Engineering program and currently work at Google as Cloud Technical Account Manager and Staff Technical Solutions Consultant, respectively.
Also in attendance were Germán Chiazzo, Principal Software Engineer at Meta, and Justina Borad, along with Javier Buquet, both Data Engineers at Spotify—all graduates of the same program.
In the field of architecture, attendees included Florencia Mutarelli, Director of Development at DiFiore & Sons; Gabriel Techera, Director at Uforma; Gastón Navarro, Development Manager at Titanium Realty Group; and Juan Francisco Noya, Project Manager at the same company, all of whom apply their expertise in project management and development in New York.

In addition, María Victoria Paz, a graduate of the Bachelor of Interior Design program, shared her expert insights in her role as an interior architect and project manager at Frank J. Quatela Architect.
The field of international relations and public administration was represented by María Noel Beretta, counselor at the Permanent Mission of Uruguay to the UN, and Mathías Eustathiou, second secretary at the Permanent Delegation of Uruguay to the UN in Chicago, both graduates of the Bachelor’s program in International Studies.
In the business sector, Jacques Alazraki, a graduate of the Bachelor’s program in Management and Administration who serves as a Director at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, attended the event;meanwhile, Ana Donner, a Marketing Analyst and Assistant Director of Marketing and Project Management at Pace University, shared her experiences in the field.
Finally, the graphic design sectorwas represented by Martín Azambuja, a senior graphic designer at Porto Rocha, and Liliana Farber, a product designer at Applicaster, both of whom bring their creativity and talent to the competitive New York market.
Commitment to the Future
The graduates expressed a strong interest in maintaining and strengthening their ties with Universidad ORT Uruguay.
Many of them expressed their willingness to collaborate on future projects and to serve as mentors for students and recent graduates planning to emigrate.
This commitment to giving back to the community what they have learned demonstrates the strong sense of belonging that ORT continues to foster among its graduates. Sabrina Bianchi emphasized the importance of that bond.
