November 1, 2022
The aim of the article by Dr. Denise Vaillant and Dr. María Ester Mancebo was to examine the situation in secondary schools regarding the use of digital technologies in the period leading up to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Despite the relatively widespread access to digital technologies in the Southern Cone, some studies show that the implementation of emergency remote learning created a variety of challenges,” said Dr. Denise Vaillant, dean of the Institute of Education at Universidad ORT Uruguay, and Dr. María Ester Mancebo, a professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the Republic.

For this reason, the article titled “Teaching with Digital Technologies: The Perspective of School Principals in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay” set out to analyze how prepared secondary schools in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay were for online learning in the pre-pandemic period.

At the same time, based on data from PISA 2018, the publication examined in depth the preparation and training of teachers in the pedagogical use of digital technologies.

“Training teachers in the pedagogical use of digital technologies poses a challenge for education systems in general and for the design of education policies in particular, making it a dynamic field of research,” the authors stated.

“Teaching with Digital Technologies: Perspectives from School Principals in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay” appears in Volume 6, Issue 2 (July–December 2022) of the Caribbean Journal of Educational Research.
