Since 2018, Universidad ORT Uruguay the Women’s Competitive Scholarship Fund, an 80% scholarship to pursue a degree in one of the following fields: Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Telecommunications Engineering.
This time, the winner of the Women's Scholarship was Natasha Filipiak, a prospective electrical engineering student .
Why did you choose to study electrical engineering? What did you know about the program before you enrolled?
First of all, I chose engineering because of my interest in science and mathematics. Then, I decided to specialize in electrical engineering because of my interest in renewable energy and my desire to provide sustainable solutions that protect the planet. I was able to get a feel for the program before enrolling because my father is an electrical engineer.
Do you think there are certain stereotypes that discourage women from choosing these careers?
Although I acknowledge that the gender gap has narrowed over the years, it is true that engineering has historically been viewed as a field almost exclusively for men, thereby limiting opportunities for women in this area.
Do you think these measures are helping to turn the situation around?
I don't think a person's calling will change, but it can make the major more appealing to students who are undecided, and it may encourage them to learn more about the programs and spark their interest.
What are your expectations for this year?
I'm excited to start a new, more challenging level of education that aligns more closely with my academic interests. I hope to give it my all so I can achieve the best possible results.
