Multidisciplinary university team named a finalist in the “Solar Decathlon for Latin America and the Caribbean 2015” competition

In November 2014, a multidisciplinary team was selected as a finalist in the “Solar Decathlon for Latin America and the Caribbean 2015” competition (Colombia).

Sixteen proposals were selected from a total of 30 projects to design and build an energy-efficient affordable housing unit.

The team, led by architect Eliseo Cabrera, a tenured professor of Bioclimatic Design, Thermal Conditioning, and Architecture Workshop 7, is made up of 34 students and eight faculty members from the Schools of Architecture, Engineering, Business and Social Sciences, and Communication and Design. In December 2015, they will travel to Cali (Colombia) to build the house.

The Solar Decathlon is an international academic competition created by the U.S. Department of Energy that travels the world seeking sustainable housing solutions powered by solar energy.
