Interview with Dr. Joaquín Kersman, visiting professor in the Graduate Specialization Programs in Taxation.
-What knowledge do you hope students will gain from the classes you taught?
-The courses are primarily designed to introduce students to issues of international taxation, mechanisms for avoiding double taxation, the exchange of information, and related topics.
-Do you think he succeeded?
I’ll have to wait and see. I think it’s really up to the students to say, but I can certainly point out that I found them to be very interested and that they had an excellent foundation, mainly because they were all certified public accountants already practicing in the field. Furthermore, I believe Uruguay is currently experiencing significant growth in this area, and that naturally sparks interest.
-Why do you think specialized graduate programs in taxation are important?
-In my experience, this field requires a very high level of specialization and staying up to date. Graduate programs go a long way toward filling that gap.
-How important do you consider mastery of the subject matter to be in the training of a tax advisor?
-It's a first step, but an absolutely essential and irreplaceable one.
-What is your view on the importance that has been placed on this subject in recent years in professional practice?
-I see a significant increase in the level of specialization in this field, which, in my opinion, has helped to increase the number of specialists and, over time, should improve the quality and standard of practice.
-How do you think the importance placed on this subject will continue to evolve, both from an academic and a professional perspective?
-I believe that this development will be significant and in line with the major changes currently taking place both in Uruguay and around the world.
-What has your experience been like working with Universidad ORT Uruguay?
-Excellent. I would like to highlight the professionalism and dedication of the tax graduate program. Thank you very much for the invitation.
