Students Belén Pérez and Camila Giaconi participated in the 2021 Tree House international project competition, and their project was selected as one of the top 50 in the competition.
The results were announced on the Volume Zero Competitionsplatform—the contest’s organizer—and were judged by a panel of professionals from Indonesia, India, Portugal, New Zealand, Mexico, and France.
The goal of the competition was to design a treehouse that reimagined children’s dreams of such spaces. Participants were required to select the site and determine the floor area.
The students chose the Laguna Blanca natural forest in Manantiales, Uruguay, as their site. This area is home to a large number of horneros, birds native to South America that build dome-shaped nests. Drawing inspiration from this, they designed a minimalist dwelling suspended among the trees, replicating the shape and positioning of the horneros’ nests.
The School of Architecture at Universidad ORT Uruguay student participation in these types of competitions, as they provide an opportunity for students to put their knowledge to the test and develop their skills through international experiences.
