In June, the Photography class of the Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, led by Professor Leo Barizzoni, took an academic field trip to the exhibition *El archivo liberado* at the CdF.

Recently, the Photography Center made its entire photographic archive—dating from approximately 1917 onward—available to the public. As part of this initiative, it held an exhibition featuring a selection of works from that archive, which has been released into the public domain.

“These are photos of Montevideo—of its architecture—serving as a documentary record. You can see the construction of the Centenario Stadium, the 1930 World Cup, the construction of the Palacio Salvo, and Pocitos Beach—different periods, but basically from 1916 or 1917 through 1940,” Barizzoni explained.

This gave us insight into photographic techniques of that era, introduced us to the historical processes behind the invention of photography, and showed us a Montevideo that was architecturally very different from the city we know today.
