JULY 2012
Juan Michelini, a student in the Bachelor’s Program in Systems Engineering, and Diego Cazabán and Giuliana Mastropietro, students in the Bachelor’s Program in Biotechnology, were awarded “Research Initiation Grants” from the ANII (National Agency for Research and Innovation), to be used for one year beginning in July and August 2012.
Michelini received the grant for his work “Computational Models in Type Theory.” The research was conducted for the Department of Computer Theory in the School of Engineering, headed by Dr. Álvaro Tasistro. The grant is scheduled to begin in July 2012 and run through August 2013.
Starting in July 2012, Cazabán will conduct research on the topic “Immobilization and Stabilization of Laccases for Use in Biofuel Cells” under the supervision of Dr. Lorena Betancor, Associate Professor and Researcher at the Faculty’s Biotechnology Laboratory. The research will be carried out in that laboratory.
Giuliana Mastropietro will begin researching the topic “Generation and preliminary characterization of recombinant cell lines relevant to biotechnology” in August 2012 under the guidance of Mariela Bollati, professor in the Bachelor’s Program in Biotechnology and Head of the Cell Biology Unitat the Institut Pasteurin Montevideo. The research will be conducted at that institute.
