“The skills and competencies required of effective educational leaders do not just appear out of thin air,” said Dr. Denise Vaillant, academic secretary of the Institute of Education at Universidad ORT Uruguay.

In her book *Innovative Approaches to Professional Development for School Leaders*, she stated that it is essential to promote professional development opportunities throughout educators’ careers because, in addition to helping improve student learning, this goes hand in hand with “fostering new ideas and practices, and necessarily involves innovation.”

“In Latin America and the Caribbean, these processes are still in their early stages, although they are becoming an increasingly prominent part of the education agenda,” he said.

"Innovative Approaches to Executive Professional Development " is a publication that set out to examine various successful executive training initiatives at the regional and global levels, with the aim of contributing to a better understanding of trends in the professional development of educational leaders.

It also sought to examine the role of educational leadership in teacher professional development.
