Former President Bill Clinton to speak at ORT Montreal

February 28, 2002
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton spoke on February 18 at a conference organized by ORT Montreal at Place des Arts in Montreal, Canada, before an audience of 2,600 people.

During the conference, ORT Montreal raised $500,000, which will be allocated to the Sunflowers project in Israel and to a similar project at two children’s hospitals in Montreal.

Sunflowers, which was launched three years ago by ORT Israel, aims to train students to teach pediatric oncology patients across Israel the technological skills they learn in ORT schools.

Among other topics, former President Clinton spoke about the September 11 attacks and their aftermath, stating that:

"What happened on September 11 was the dark side of interdependence. For very little money, we can build a world with more friends and fewer terrorists."

He added, "If we live in a world without barriers, we simply have no choice but to make it a home for all our children. That is why organizations like ORT are necessary to build the kind of world we are striving to achieve."
