Universidad ORT Uruguay First Graduation Ceremony of 2019

At the Sodre National Auditorium, 185 graduates from the four schools of Universidad ORT Uruguay their degrees at the first graduation ceremony of 2019.

To mark the first graduation ceremony of the academic year, 185 graduates from Universidad ORT Uruguay at the Sodre Adela Reta National Auditorium to celebrate the end of one chapter and the beginning of another as professionals. The graduates were joined by family members, friends, and officials from the four schools: Architecture, Business and Social Sciences, Communication and Design, and Engineering.

“Don’t be afraid of your dreams (…) always choose big challenges that force you to grow,” said the rector , Dr. Jorge Grünberg, as he addressed the new graduates during the ceremony. “Succeed from Uruguay and help your country succeed,” he encouraged. Furthermore, since this is an election year, the rector the need for graduates to develop a critical mindset: “Ask yourselves which candidates offer prophecies and which offer proposals. Let them know that you expect more ideas and fewer ideologies.”

During the ceremony, four graduates spoke on behalf of each school, reflecting on their time at the university, the responsibility that comes with completing this phase, and their future commitments.

The first to take the stage was Stefanía Mussio, a graduate of the Public Accounting program, who said that accountants must be well-rounded professionals expected to have knowledge across various fields. “That is why we must be prepared to tackle any challenge that comes our way,” she said.

For her part, Micaela Barreiro was chosen to represent the School of Architecture. “From a house, a building, a plaza, to a city. Any of these interventions can help improve the world we live in, and architecture is increasingly moving in this direction,” she explained.

Speaking on behalf of the School of Communication and Design, Ramiro Benedetti, who holds a bachelor’s degree in communication, said: “Society has also changed, and people are beginning to care not only about what brands produce, but also how they produce it, what they say, do, and value, and how they relate to the context in which they operate.”

The last to give his speech was Rodrigo San Nicolás, a graduate of the Bachelor’s program in Systems. “The best way to establish yourself in the job market is by innovating and contributing to society through the role we are called upon to fulfill, and this can only be achieved through knowledge.”

During the ceremony, the traditional institutional plaques were presented to all graduates, and special recognition was given to the graduates with honors, who completed their university studies with the highest grade point averages.
