These appointments recognize their distinguished careers, the invaluable contributions they have made to our institution, and their commitment to implementing innovative initiatives that have left a lasting mark on the development of Universidad ORT Uruguay.

Julio Fernández, Engineer

In August 2024, we bid farewell to Julio Fernández, who stepped down from his position as vice president after more than 30 years of exceptional service.

A chemical engineer by training, with an outstanding career in both academia and industry, his legacy includes the implementation of innovative initiatives that strengthened academic quality and fostered close collaboration with the private sector.

His ability to combine technical rigor with strategic vision contributed significantly to ORT's development as a leading educational institution.

Mario Fernández, Engineer

For his part, Mario Fernández served as the founding dean of the School of Engineering for 25 years, leaving a lasting mark on the institution.

During his tenure as dean, the school expanded its infrastructure, programs, and reputation, training generations of professionals who now hold key positions in Uruguay and around the world.

Their dedication and commitment to academic excellence have been instrumental in establishing the School of Engineering as a leader in the region.

Mario Fernández was also known for his close rapport with students and colleagues, always serving as an approachable and dedicated mentor.

Dr. Gaston J. Labadie

In late 2024, Dr. Gastón J. Labadie concluded his distinguished tenure as the founding dean of the School of Management and Social Sciences, after more than 30 years in the role.

Under his visionary leadership, the faculty achieved significant milestones, such as the launch of Uruguay’s first MBA program and the recent creation of the country’s first university degree program in Digital Business.

Dr. Labadie distinguished himself as a professor, researcher, and mentor, fostering the advanced training of a new generation of academic and professional leaders.

These appointments will be finalized once the 2025 school year begins.

We celebrate these appointments as a tribute to the legacy of those who have dedicated their professional lives to the growth and excellence of our institution.

His contribution will continue to inspire us as we face the challenges of the future.
